Josephine and Byron are so excited to share their special day with you! In case you don’t know their story, here is a brief summary.

It all started when...

Josephine, or Joey, as her friends call her, moved out to Denver in early January of 2010. Less than a month before that, Byron had  moved from Denver to Phoenix for a new job. In October of 2010, while Byron was back in Denver for a friend’s wedding, he spotted Joey at a late-night dive-bar. After exchanging looks most of the evening, a very well-dressed, suited-up Byron finally asked Joey for her number, and insisted that she let him take her to dinner during his next visit to Denver.

A few weeks later, Byron and Joey had their first date at Lola, where they enjoyed an excellent meal and even better conversation. She was drawn to his love for his family and friends, and his attention to detail, as he remembered everything she had said. His patience was also something she recognized as a key character trait, especially when she was getting ready or over-packing for a weekend in the mountains. Byron was attracted to Joey’s self-confidence, and comfort in her own skin. He recognized patience in her as well, and found her intelligence and honesty alluring. After their first foray into the mountains and skiing together later that weekend, Joey knew he had potential.

The Engagement

Nearly five years, three states, and countless ski trips later, Byron got down on one knee in the most perfect spot in Blue Sky Basin at Vail, their favorite ski resort.

Byron had requested that Joey take a few days off work for a long weekend in the mountains, which she was all too happy to do. Joey missed that clue, and continued to be oblivious when Byron had a full backpack on a warm day, and suggested they take a photo as soon as they got on the mountain (something he would NEVER do).

Byron soon led Joey through a gate into an off-piste area full of trees, where they stopped on a ledge over-looking the basin. She went ahead back to the lift while he made some work calls, only to be told immediately to ride back up and ski down to meet him. Joey, figuring there was little chance of finding Byron again, insisted that he meet her at the top of the lift instead. He arrived shortly thereafter, with only one glove. Joey reluctantly followed him back through the gate and into the trees to find it. They skied for a bit, until he told her to stop and wait just above where they had been earlier, saying he had spotted his glove. The exhausted Joey plopped down onto the snow to take a break.

A few minutes later, Byron called Joey down to him. She skied just beyond the trees, and found Byron on one knee, with a ring in hand and a blanket spread out beneath him, champagne and glasses at the ready. After a short speech, Byron asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. She was so excited that she couldn’t get her skis off to kiss him and say “Yes!!!”

They celebrated that evening at their favorite sushi spot, and spent the rest of the weekend either on the ski hill, in the hot tub, or by the fire in the condo Byron rented for the occasion. It was a more perfect day, and a more perfect weekend, than Joey could have ever imagined.
